Getting Started
How do I install ScamBrake?
Use the verified store link on our download page, then review and confirm the browser permissions. Firefox is the current public listing; Chrome and Edge remain in review or release preparation.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Local warnings do not require an account. An account is needed only for optional features such as metadata-only history and caregiver sharing.
Will ScamBrake slow down my computer or email?
The extension is designed to inspect only visible supported messages and avoid blocking the page. Performance still varies by provider and browser, so report any slowdown you notice.
Browser Permissions
Why does ScamBrake need to read my emails?
ScamBrake only reads visible text on your screen to detect scams. We never read emails you haven't opened, never access your password, and never see attachments.
Can I turn off ScamBrake on certain websites?
Yes! Click the ScamBrake icon in your browser and toggle it off. You can re-enable it anytime.
What data does ScamBrake store?
Local scanning stores no message content in our cloud. If you enable cloud history, we store only derived warning metadata such as provider, time, risk, category, confidence, and reason codes. AI message payloads are not persisted.
Why Was This Flagged?
How accurate is ScamBrake?
No scam detector is perfect. ScamBrake can miss scams or flag legitimate messages, so treat each result as a warning with reasons—not a guarantee or final decision.
Can I disagree with a warning?
Yes. Click "Dismiss" on a warning banner if it does not apply. Dismissing a warning does not upload the message or train a model.
What if I miss a scam?
Report missed scams through the extension popup. Our team reviews submissions to improve detection.

Is ScamBrake really free?
Core local scam detection works without an account. Optional account, cloud history, caregiver, and AI capabilities are separate and can be left off.
How does Premium access work?
AI second opinions require a Premium or Enterprise account and an available AI service. Check the pricing page for the current offer before purchasing.
What's included in Premium?
AI second opinions and account features described on the current pricing page. Analytics remains a separate optional consent, not a condition of Premium.
Data & Privacy
How do I delete my data?
Visit our Data Deletion page to submit a request. All your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
Does ScamBrake sell my data?
Never. We don't sell data to anyone, ever. Your privacy is fundamental to our mission.
How do I opt out of caregiver sharing?
Click the ScamBrake popup, go to Settings, and toggle off caregiver sharing. All alerts stop immediately.
